Two virtual server clusters are available for both network tiers (internal and DMZ), as an alternative option for purchasing a server. BMI is currently using VMWare to maintain 15 virtual machine clusters. We can provision Windows and Linux virtual machines in BMI research network (CHMCRES and DMZ). We have more than 800 virtual machines running on 60 physical servers.

Benefits of this virtual environment include the ability to:

  • Quickly create a virtual machine,
  • Clone virtual machines across environments,
  • Ensure uptime using high availability and dynamic migration features.

Cost of a virtual machine can be estimated via BeMyIT Store. Login with your CCHMC credentials, click on New Resource Request and then select Virtual Machine.

If you have further questions, please contact Research IT Support at help-vmware@bmi.cchmc.org.
